Mónica Naranjo is Revisiting Her Career and Reflecting on Her Artistic Journey

Mónica Naranjo, the Spanish pop icon, is celebrating three decades in the music industry with her 'Greatest Hits Tour'. Naranjo, known for her powerful voice and eclectic style, is reflecting on her journey, her influences, and her future aspirations. The artist is currently touring Mexico and the United States, performing for audiences of over 50,000 people, and is preparing for the next phase of her tour, which will take her to major Spanish cities in October, November, and December.

A Diva's Perspective

During an interview with El País, Naranjo discussed her reluctance to write a memoir or create a documentary about her life. «I have a habit of forgetting everything I do», she explains. «I remember perfectly when I presented 'La isla de las tentaciones'. I remember everything that happened on the island, but the moment I left, I closed it off» (M. Bianchi, 2025).

Naranjo prefers to focus on the present and future, constantly seeking to learn and evolve. She believes that the best way to express her life is through her music. «The best way to expose my life is by making good music», she says.

The Evolution of an Icon

Naranjo's image as a strong, powerful woman has been carefully cultivated. When she was younger, this persona served as a shield in the complex music industry. «When I was younger, that character was necessary because I was very alone. I went to Mexico very young and alone, and this industry is very complicated. That character sheltered me; it was my safe place», she admits. Now, she feels more secure and no longer needs that protective layer.

Political Views and Social Commentary

Naranjo shared her thoughts on current political issues, including the debate surrounding the Catalan language. As a first-generation Catalan, she believes that society is becoming too polarized. «We are in a society where the amount of gray areas has been forgotten. We are polarizing everything, and that is a shame. When you radicalize something, you move away from the truth», she states. She emphasizes the importance of learning from past generations and avoiding division.

Feminism and LGBTQ+ Advocacy

As a prominent figure in the LGBTQ+ community and a feminist icon, Naranjo firmly believes in the equality and acceptance of transgender women. «For me, a trans woman is a woman. What you feel in your heart is valid to me. End of story», she asserts. She calls for compassion and understanding towards a community that has suffered greatly.

Triumph and Resilience

Naranjo's career path has been unconventional, achieving success abroad before gaining recognition in Spain. She attributes her success to divine timing and learning to go with the flow. «I believe that God's timing is perfect. I have learned to flow in these years», she says. She acknowledges that she has always been determined and persistent, but has learned to let go and trust the process.

Future Aspirations and Reflections

Looking ahead, Naranjo emphasizes the importance of gratitude. «There are many things left for me to do. One of them is to be grateful. It is important in life to be grateful, and we don't do it enough. There is a saying that says: 'Ask once and thank a thousand times'» (M. Bianchi, 2025). She feels fulfilled with her accomplishments but believes there is still more to achieve.

Reflecting on her 30-year career, Naranjo wouldn't change a thing. «I would not change a comma because everything was necessary to toughen me up and get me here», she says. She values the challenges she has faced, as they have made her stronger and more resilient.

The Toughest Challenges and Future Plans

One of the most difficult decisions Naranjo made was leaving music at the height of her career. «Leaving music at the height of my career was the best thing I could have done. I was not present. And to create, to do things, you have to be present. When you are not present, everyone controls you. And that is very dangerous. That's why I abandoned the boat. I spent seven years without singing, and I didn't miss it», she confesses.

Unlike some artists who dream of dying on stage, Naranjo does not share that sentiment. «No, I don't want to die on stage. I'm not that much of an artist», she concludes. She values her life and experiences beyond her career, suggesting that she may pursue other passions in the future.

Naranjo's 'Greatest Hits Tour' continues to captivate audiences, showcasing her timeless talent and enduring appeal. Her reflections on her career, her values, and her future plans offer a glimpse into the mind of a true icon. Audiences in Seville, Murcia, Malaga, Valencia, Madrid, and Barcelona can anticipate her performances in the coming months.
