Ayuso Defends Partner's Tax Situation, Alleges Political Motivation
Isabel Díaz Ayuso, the President of the Community of Madrid, is currently embroiled in a controversy surrounding her partner, Alberto González Amador, who is under investigation for alleged tax fraud. In a recent tense interview on Onda Cero, Ayuso vehemently defended her partner, insisting that the legal proceedings against him are part of a larger scheme orchestrated to tarnish her reputation. She is arguing that the situation is being blown out of proportion and that it is, in essence, a politically motivated attack.

The Core of the Controversy
According to reporting from El País, González Amador is accused of defrauding the Spanish tax authorities of €350,910 between 2020 and 2021 through the use of approximately 15 false invoices totaling €1.7 million (García & Peinado, 2025). Ayuso, however, is attempting to downplay the severity of the allegations, stating that «in 99% of cases, this results in a fine, and only in 1% does it escalate to the General Prosecutor's Office.» She characterizes her partner as merely an «autónomo» (self-employed individual) facing a tax payment delay.
Ayuso's Defense and Allegations
Ayuso continues to portray the investigation into González Amador as an extraordinary measure involving multiple government entities with the explicit purpose of undermining her. She stated in the interview that «The General State Prosecutor, the State Attorney, several officials sending notes with drops of cyanide, 22 ministries, the cabinet of the President of the Government, and 13 months of media trial are all involved.» Ayuso further claims that the situation surrounding González Amador is a «scheme to discredit» the Quirón health group, a significant contractor within the Community of Madrid.

Legal Proceedings and Counterarguments
Despite Ayuso's claims, González Amador is facing serious legal scrutiny. A judge in Madrid has been investigating him since March of the previous year for two counts of tax fraud. This includes accusations of falsifying documents. The investigation has also expanded to include alleged business corruption and disloyal administration related to González Amador's dealings with the Quirón health group (García & Peinado, 2025). Critics argue that Ayuso is far from removed from the case. They point out that González Amador acquired a luxury apartment in Madrid, where he currently resides with Ayuso, shortly after the alleged fraud occurred.
The Political Fallout
Following the initial reports of the tax fraud allegations, Ayuso presented herself as the victim of a «State operation» orchestrated by Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. She also tried to mislead the public by suggesting that the Tax Agency owed money to Amador. She has since been contradicted by journalist Carlos Alsina, who pointed out that González Amador had attempted to resolve the situation by making an unauthorized payment to the Tax Agency.
Alsina challenged Ayuso's involvement in defending her partner, given that the case doesn't directly involve her administration. In response, Ayuso said, «If I don't answer, it appears that I am covering it up, and if I do answer, I start talking about a matter that is not mine.» She continues to defend herself, stating that she is facing this to avoid giving the impression that she is evading responsibility.
Unaccompanied Minors and International Alliances
Beyond the tax fraud controversy, Ayuso also addressed other pertinent issues during the interview. She reaffirmed her commitment to «complying with the law» regarding the distribution of unaccompanied minors. She accused the central government of a lack of control regarding what she characterized as «massive» immigration. Additionally, Ayuso expressed uncertainty regarding the evolving alliances between the United States and Russia in the realm of international politics.
Concluding Remarks
The situation is continuing to unfold. Alberto González Amador is scheduled to appear in court on April 10 for a hearing related to the alleged business corruption and disloyal administration charges. As the legal proceedings progress, Isabel Díaz Ayuso is remaining steadfast in her defense of her partner, framing the situation as a politically motivated attack aimed at destabilizing her administration and damaging the reputation of those associated with her.
